Mollie Fitzgerald, Captain America Actress, Arrested for Murdering Her Own Mother
Mollie Fitzgerald, an actress best known for her role in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, was arrested on Tuesday by police in Olathe, Kansas.
She is accused of fatally stabbing her mother.
According to The Kansas City Star, the 38-year old has been charged with second-degree murder and jailed on $500,000 bond.
The heinous incident in question allegedly took place on December 20, which is when Patricia "Tee" Fitzgerald, 68, was found dead inside of her home.
Cops say they responded on that date to a call of an armed disturbance; upon their arrival, they discovered Mollie Fitzgerald on the scene and transported her to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The relatively obscure actress portrayed a Stark girl in the aforementioned 2011 Marvel film.
She is also listed as a director and producer of some low-budget short films, including 2017's "The Creeps."
The victim's brother, Gary Hunziker, told the Kansas City Star on Tuesday that the family knew very few details about the circumstances surrounding his sibling's death.
"We were shocked ... it doesn't matter the circumstances — the loss of a sister is what it's all about," Hunziker told the newspaper.
"Being a part of this production has been one of the best experiences of my life," Fitzgerald told a comic book publication eight-plus years ago of her work on the first Captain American movie.
She also served as an assistant to director Joe Johnson on this blockbuster.
At the time of her arrest, Fitzgerald was in midst of producing the documentary Fireball, along with two short films, King of Wishful Thinking and Phantasma.
She was also the writer and director on all three projects.
Patricia Fitzgerald, meanwhile, was in the process of moving back to the Kansas City area after living several decades in the Houston area, added her brother to The Kansas City Star.
She is described in her obituary as a major sports fan, especially of the Houston Rockets, an avid tennis player, and “one of the kindest people you could ever meet.. always helping people and animals in need.”
She is survived by her husband and two brothers, Gary and Terry Hunziker.
Mollie Fitzgerald will be arraigned later today.
