Just two weeks ago, two young black men were arrested after a Starbucks barista called police on them for simply sitting down in the coffeehouse. Video captured the arrests and the clip went viral immediately. The reaction was swift and unrelenting. The young black men were clearly racially profiled and treated like they were because they are black. Hell, they were only in the Starbucks for two minutes, not even really getting a chance to actually loiter.

The outrage towards Starbucks came from all corners of social media – white, black, man and woman – all joined forces to threaten boycotts, write the company and demand they rectify a wrongdoing. As a result of the mobilizing, the Starbucks CEO decided to stand with the young men, offering them working opportunities, making media appearances and even closing stores for a day to initiate diversity training for its employees. This was certainly above and beyond what we’ve seen from most companies accused of racial insensitivities and it’s largely thanks to the efforts of black activists who held Starbucks’ feet to the fire nonstop.

Waffle House has been spared this outcome.

Chikesia Clemons walked into a Waffle House in Saraland, Alabama late on the evening of April 22nd, a few days after the Starbucks incident. It’s unclear what happened next but we do know, thanks to another viral video, police were called and Clemons was held down, her breast exposed, officer hands on her neck. It was disgusting. The events that led to the altercation are disputed: Waffle House employees say that Clemons walked in drunk and threatened to “shoot up” the restaurant after being charged $.50 for plastic utensils. However, the employee who called 911 never mentioned the threat to the operator. Clemons’ attorney, Benjamin Crump, says he has witnesses who dispel the employee’s claims.

Waffle House and its CEO have stood by the actions of its employees and even taking a step farther by saying they “strongly support the actions taken by the Saraland Police Department” (despite the fact that Waffle House as a business isn’t one with an expertise in law enforcement training so they really don’t have any authority to say what is proper protocol or not).

And through it all, the amount of pushback directed at Waffle House has been infinitesimal compared to the amount of action directed at Starbucks. There are marches taking place in Georgia, and proposed boycotts and sit-ins, but not nearly on the level of what we saw at Starbucks, which forced the CEO to speak up. Why?

Is it because there were so many vocal white cosigners for the Starbucks incident as opposed to the Waffle House situation? The Starbucks incident was one of those acts of resistance that didn’t inconvenience white people while at the same time allowing many to feel like they are about equality – it’s easy to point the finger at one Starbucks worker for her actions. However, we’ve seen how so many white Americans simply can’t bring themselves to question law enforcement.

Is the reluctance because there just never seems to be the same sort of thirst for justice when it comes to black women as for literally any other group of people on this planet? We’ve seen these cases so often of a hesitance or flat-our refusal for anyone to stand up for black women, which the exception of black women themselves. Of course, there’s the fact that the Waffle House situation has more dissenting testimonies than Starbucks. That’s undeniable. But no matter what the narrative is, there’s absolutely no reason for Clemons to have been assaulted as she was. That is also undeniable. So Waffle House going so far as to defend the police actions is a reprehensible enough decision to warrant immediate action, even if you feel they are justified in calling police in the first place.. Sadly, though, when it comes to instances of black women being attacked, there’s always a wait-and-see approach. Stories about wronged black women seem to bring about the “let’s let the facts play out crowd.” The same people who have an understanding of lies and conspiracies to keep black men subjugated are suddenly proponents of the American judicial system, despite its history of terrorizing black communities.

Where does that leave the Chikesia Clemonses of the world? The same place it left Korrine Gaines or the endless black women who are victims of R. Kelly’s sexual assaults. Alone, defended by only other black women and a few choice allies. So what side do you fall on?

If you spoke up about Starbucks but have been silent about Waffle House, then you need to ask yourself why. And what that means about your ideas of justice for black women. Because it needs to be understand that none of us are free until all of us are free.

Fabolous & Emily B Reportedly Living Together After Domestic Dispute Drama

Rumors are currently swirling that Fabolous and Emily B are not only reconciled but living in the same house.

As previously reported fans were surprised to see that the Emily was seemingly sticking by Fab’s side after they were spotted holding hands at Coachella.

Mind you, this all comes after Fab requested a delay in court proceedings regarding the charges Emily brought against him, alleging that he had threatened her and her father with violence and later punched her in the face 7 times breaking her front teeth.

Now TheJasmineBrand reports that the two are back living together in NYC despite what any detractors might say.

“The public doesn’t really know this, but they live together again,” a source told the site. “They were back together shortly after the situation blew up on social media.”

We wish Emily nothing but the best and hope that her brother and father who were seen on that damning video arguing with Fab, are close by for her support.

Last week, Kelis nearly imploded the internet after revealing some of the dark details from her relationship with ex-husband Nas. She claims that she and Illmatic rapper had a violent romance and that same energy is the cause of some of their custody struggles.

Nas hasn’t rushed to debunk claims publicly, even though his name was trending on twitter after the story broke, but now he seems to have broken his silence.

Within just 4 days of using a new facial recognition system, New Delhi police have been able to identify nearly 3,000 missing children.

Currently, the names of the children are being determined so they can be reunited with their families.

According to the Indian government, New Delhi police began using the software on April6, testing 45,000 kids living in various children’s homes throughout the city.

After cross-referencing the results with a massive database of missing children, they were able to recognise 2,930 of the reported cases within April 6 and April 10.

Despite the success of the operation, the facial recognition system is still very much on a trial basis as of now. But the The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), along with the Delhi Police, are pushing forward with rolling out the system to the rest of India.

A spokesperson for Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), the children’s rights organisation that was behind the campaign, said:

“India currently has almost 200,000 missing children and about 90,000 lodged in various child care institutions.”

“It is almost impossible for anyone to manually go through photographs to match the children,” he added.

In a 1.3 billion-person population such as India, such a task as tracing the whereabouts of thousands of children who disappear each year becomes gargantuan in proportion.

India’s Ministry of Women and Child Development report that there were more than 240,000 cases of missing children between 2012 and 2017 alone. However, some organizations estimate that the real number is almost to 500,000 per year.

With the digital tool, Indian officials hope that the backlog of names and photos will be significantly reduced.

Jeannie Mae’s Ex-Husband Freddy Harteis Expecting A Child

Seemingly just six months after their split, Jeannie Mai’s ex-husband Freddy Harteis has moved ALL the way on.

The Hollywood Hunter Productions owner took to Instagram this week to share a photo of himself announcing the impending birth of his first child, a baby girl.

“If you’ve seen me in the last six months you have seen me not able to wipe a crazy grin off my face because of a beautiful woman who captured my heart. And, in the last four months, I have been walking on the clouds because of the thought of us having a miracle of our own and yesterday, my heart about burst out of my chest when we found out our precious child, would be our precious DAUGHTER.”

If you can remember, Jeannie first announced their divorce in October and said in February on “The Real” that her decision not to have children played a part in the end of their relationship.

Mind you Jeannie said she told Freddie back when they were dating that she didn’t want kids.

“That was definitely one of the main… one of the big main factors, because when we were dating I was always very vocal, cuz I’ll never lead a man on, when I know that I didn’t want to have children,” said Jeannie. “So I was always honest about that, and we were both so young, it was about 14 years ago. I think he also thought ‘You know what? We’re so in love, I don’t want that either’.

And to be honest, he could’ve been happy not having children with me,” she continued. “But when you see… when you physically see how a man is with a child, that a man really desires to be a father, and you know that you are that block between that happening, you just don’t feel right about it.”

She also made it very clear that cheating wasn’t a factor in their split so who knows how long they’ve actually really been broken up.

His new girlfriend is a Florida based model named Linsey Toole.

Well, it looks like Freddie got his wish. We’re sure Jeannie will speak about this on “The Real” since she’s always been very transparent about her relationship.

All the while people are wondering about the details of Jeannie and Freddy’s split, Jeannie’s remaining positive and celebrating “The Real’s” first Emmy Win.

The talented talk show team took home a trophy for Oustanding Entertainment Talk Show last night during the Daytime Emmys and the hosts stayed true to their pact to host their show without wiping off last night’s makeup if they won.
