Drug dealers often end up in court — but not like this.
On Monday, Page Six published a story poking fun at small California marijuana distributor Autumn Brands for sending out a press release claiming that when Alicia Keys had thanked Beyoncé from the Grammys stage for sending her “that orange box,” she’d been referring to their product. (Keys was, of course, talking about one of the orange wardrobe racks packed with items from Queen Bey’s Ivy Park clothing line that she sent to her celebrity pals — and have subsequently been all over Instagram.)
Then on Tuesday, we got a call from Keys’ lawyers at the firm of Holland & Knight asking us to hand over the press release. An attorney looking into the matter told us, “We are handling it. It’s not true [that Keys was plugging Autumn Brands].”
Meanwhile, Autumn Brands gave us an apology, saying, “We made a mistake and jumped the gun,” and that they “initially had foolishly thought” she was promoting the brand and “got too excited.” Autumn Brand’s partner Hanna Brand tells us, “In an effort to be humorous and light-hearted, we unintentionally made it sound like an endorsement … We apologize for any misunderstanding and congratulate Ms. Keys on another successful year.”
