Despite receiving a public invite via Page Six, Idina Menzel was a no-show to Jordan Roth and Rick Miramontez’s bustling Broadway-themed Grammy party at Hollywood hot spot Tramp Stamp Granny’s — but she was there in spirit.
Theater stars Adrienne Warren and Ariana DeBose belted out a duet of Menzel’s signature song from “Rent,” “Take Me or Leave Me,” as a tribute. Bar co-owner Darren Criss pounded the piano and introduced the song by saying, “Idina could walk through that door at any minute, so let’s hurry up and do this!”
Guests included the night’s winner for Best Musical Theater Album, “Hadestown” creator Anaïs Mitchell, along with Billy Porter, Sting and Cyndi Lauper, among others. The party, which went into the wee hours, will become an annual happening, its organizers said.
The whole running joke started when Page Six reported that someone with the handle IHeartIdina97 — an “Idina Menzel superfan” — had posted the secret password for the party to a theater blog. Menzel then kidded online that she hadn’t been invited.
