‘The Magicians’ spoiler alerts below:

A new romantic connection may be brewing in Fillory.

On Wednesday night’s episode of Syfy’s “The Magicians,” viewers were finally introduced to the Dark King, who spent the night concealing his identity and forming what appears to be a new love connection for Eliot after losing Quentin at the end of Season 4.

“With the Dark King, what we are setting up … we were talking about a dark mirror for many of our characters, but especially for Eliot, in that he has a deep grief and he is making these choices along the way of how to live his life and how to move forward, or not move forward,” the show’s co-creator Sera Gamble told us of a potential relationship between the pair.

She continued, “When you’re grieving, when you’ve lost someone significant, there are a lot of ways to get stuck and there are a lot of ways to be self destructive and certainly in the grieving process, I have been very self-destructive at times in my life … So it was an opportunity to tell more than one story.”

Although she didn’t give away too much detail about future episodes, Gamble — who also created the hit Netflix show “You” — did confirm that Eliot (Hale Appleman) and the Dark King, played by Sean Maguire, are attracted to each other.

“We follow young adults over time as they’re becoming the adults they’re going to be,” Gamble explained. “Part of what happens in your twenties for many of us, you start to have your own number. You can’t really lie to yourself that it’s going to be so different this time if it has all earmarks of something that didn’t work out well before or wasn’t healthy for you before.”

She teased, “So will he or won’t he go there? … He’s not going to be able to pretend that would be the most positive, therapeutic, clean thing to do in all respects.”

“The Magicians” airs Wednesdays on Syfy.
