Ellen Pompeo addresses Justin Chambers’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ exit

January 11, 2020

“Grey’s Anatomy” fans have been reeling ever since Justin Chambers confirmed his exit from the ABC medical drama. As many remain hopeful Alex Karev won’t be killed off of the series, co-star and series lead Ellen Pompeo shared with fans how much she’ll miss working with her 15-year screen partner in a tweet she sent Saturday morning.

The actress, 50, retweeted a Vanity Fair tweet that read, “#GreysAnatomy is about to feel one of its biggest losses yet,” to which she replied, “Truer words have never been spoken @VanityFair.” The piece in question is entitled, “Grey’s Anatomy Will Not Be the Same Without Alex Karev.”

Chambers and Pompeo are two of four original cast members remaining, in addition to Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey and James Pickins, Jr. as Dr. Richard Webber.

Justin announced his departure Friday with the following statement: “There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” Chambers said in a statement to Deadline. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”
