Sir Rod Stewart and his eldest son, Sean, were charged with simple battery after they allegedly got into an altercation with a hotel security guard during a New Year’s Eve party in Palm Beach, Florida.

The altercation took place around 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, after the 74-year-old rocker and his group, which included several children, were denied entry to a children’s area at the swank Breakers Resort.

A security guard told police Sean Stewart, 39, got “nose to nose” with him. When the guard put the back of his right hand on his chest and told him need needed to back up to create some space, the police report said Sean Stewart  responded by shoving the security guard backward.

The Mirror identified the guard as Jessie Dixon, 33.

Police say that the “Maggie May” singer then approached and threw a punch, striking Dixon guard in his left rib cage.

Two Breakers employees told police they saw Sean Stewart push Dixon and Rod Stewart punch the guard in the chest. Video surveillance showed the Stewarts to be the primary aggressors, the Palm Beach Post reported

Rod Stewart said the family was attempting to get children in their group into the event. Stewart said that after they were denied access, the security guard became argumentative with his family, which in turn caused him to become agitated.

Father and son were ordered to appear in court for an arraignment hearing on Feb. 5.
