Julián Castro has dropped out of the race to become the Democratic nominee for the 2020 Presidential election. He is the latest person of color to join the ranks of also-rans, joining Kamala Harris, who dropped out last month. The field continues to get whiter, as we approach the first two opportunities for Democratic voters to weigh in on the nominee, in the stark white states of Iowa and New Hampshire.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence. Ahem.

Castro is expected to remain a viable VP candidate, along with Kamala Harris, although Castro might consider getting in on the action for John Cornyn's Senate seat in Texas. Castro performed well in the early debates, but never quite recovered after yelling at Joe Biden during one of the late summer debates. I don't even remember what the exchange was about -- immigration, I believe -- and I think that Castro was right on the merits, but apparently, voters do not like to see Uncle Joe yelled at.

Of course, this all keeps us on track for the inevitable nomination of Joe Biden, who leads the field by a good ten points, according to the latest polls, which show that Warren has stalled, Buttigieg is losing ground, and Sanders is running a distant second. Plus side, Bernie has a ton of money, having raised a whopping $34 million in the fourth quarter, and he may be shaping up to be Biden's strongest challenger. If Bernie pulls it out, though, I hope to God he can win in the midwest, because he's even less liked than Trump in Florida.

Maybe we should just stop giving anyone else any hope and just go ahead and give the nomination to Biden and pray that he chooses a great VP candidate to replace him after Trump drums up some charges and tosses Biden in jail.
