Apparently, Mariah Carey and Ansel Elgort are friends.

The somewhat unlikely pals rang in the New Year together at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, we’re told. (Elgort was there at least in part via a paid partnership with the country’s tourism board, per his Instagram.)

They “watched the massive firework show at a private villa there,” said a spy. “Baby Driver” star Elgort popped in with his girlfriend and his mother.

They also celebrated Carey makeup artist Kristofer Buckle’s birthday. Her kids and boyfriend Bryan Tanaka were also there.
