Samantha Mathis, 1994 ‘Little Women”s Amy, cosigns Greta Gerwig’s intepretation

Samantha Mathis, who plays Amy March in the 1994 movie version of “Little Women” with Winona Ryder, is a fan of Greta Gerwig’s interpretation.
“It’s not that Amy didn’t get her due in our version, but I love that Greta gave Amy a larger voice,” Mathis told us at a Cinema Society event.
Oscar voters didn’t seem to agree, snubbing Gerwig in the Best Director category Monday.
But the movie, which Mathis thinks is “spectacular,” was nominated for Best Picture and Best Screenplay, and Saoirse Ronan and Florence Pugh got nods for their roles.
