Grey's Anatomy Season 16 Episode 1 was all over the place.
We're talking literally, of course.
The episode dealt with the aftermath of the explosive season finale which found Meredith, Alex, and Richard fired from Grey Sloan Memorial.
We leaped through time to fill in the blanks on what went down for the characters.
Time to run down those wild developments!
What the eff happened to Jackson? There has been much debate that he was dead.
As if that would happen, right?
Maggie and the Station 19 firefighters fought their way through the fog and found the surgeon trying to help a climber who was holding on to a rope.
But this wasn't just any rope. This climber's husband was unconscious and barely holding on for dear life.
Even though Jackson helped save the man's life by just being there for support, Maggie couldn't help but complain.
She yelled that he left her “in a car on an unfamiliar road in the woods surrounded by fog and bears and wolves!”
Maggie then wondered whether she was so expendable to Jackson that he would throw her off a cliff. Yes, really.
The couple (finally!) broke up, and Maggie told Amelia and Meredith that she would never get back with him.
“I think I deserve better,” she said, “than someone who regularly abandons me for trees.”
Sounds about right.
But Jackson did not wait around and started to romance Station 19's Vic. When they went on a date, there were fireworks.
Maggie found out and was pissed, but she didn't tell Jackson that.
What you do is “none of my business,” Maggie declared, “’cause I don’t like you, and you don’t like me, and we’re not friends.”
Okay then.
As for Meredith Grey, aka the woman the show revolves around, she found out that she was likely not losing her medical license.
Early on the premiere, her lawyer told her that she would likely avoid a prison sentence. This was music to Mer's ears.
Mer clearly thought she was headed to prison because of her crime and even started the process of saying goodbye to her friends.
However, things took an explosive turn in court when Meredith failed to speak up for herself.
She struggled to come to terms that she was in court, and it may well have cost her the career she loved so much.
At the conclusion of the trippy premiere, Meredith got a text saying that the medical board was going to be pursuing action against her.
Yes, really.
Looks like this storyline will be dragged on for much of the season. Surely the show would end the moment Meredith loses her license, right?
As for Alex and Richard, they got new jobs!
Richard interviewed at a competing hospital for a chief of surgery job.
However, he realized that he was too old to get the job, so he told Alex to get the job and hire him in a role.
The plan was a success story, and the two men will be making the move imminently.
But Catherine struggled with the news that her husband helped cover up insurance fraud in the hospital, and she refused to speak to him.
By the end of the episode, however, she was busy flipping the eff out over the new job he got himself.
Then there was Teddy, who told Koracick she chose Owen. He was respectful of her decision but told her that she would realize it was the wrong one down the line.
Owen listed his house for sale so that he and Teddy could get a new one to start making memories with their child.
In perhaps the biggest twist of the premiere, Amelia found out that she was pregnant, setting up a big who's the father? storyline.
What did you think of all the twists?
