Kanye West’s ‘Jesus Is King’ a collaboration with James Turrell

September 30, 2019

Kanye West unleashes his new IMAX film, “Jesus Is King” Oct. 25. Exploring theatrical experiences, this co-production is a collaboration and will play worldwide in IMAX theaters.

Filmed summertime it’s a Praise the Lord album in Hallelujah gospel tradition and brings his newfound Sunday sermoning to life in the Roden Crater. That’s artist James Turrell’s never-before-seen installation in Arizona’s Painted Desert. A sneak peek was at listening parties in Detroit’s Fox Theatre and Chicago’s Roosevelt University.

Brethren and sistren, you got to hand it to the Kardashian group — because now, even if you don’t — they’ll get it in the collection plate.

Meanwhile in Morocco

Weknow the Clintons just visited Morocco. We don’t know that they know that its King Mohammed VI (known as M6 by those close) may not be experiencing the best of health. Breathing problems following heart surgery in Paris.

Also, there are reports that His Majesty and Princess Salma are finalizing a divorce. However, HRH still bunks at the palaces because she is near to their son the Crown Prince. Because she will then be revered mother of the king.

Should the Clintons need to know anything else, may they feel free to call me.

Business as usual

Forget the president, the Ukraine and the whistleblower. Personal trading between humans has gone on since cavemen and cavespies. Too bad George Washington didn’t have a phone. If Sitting Bull had a tomtomblower back then he’d probably be beating out: “Tonto grabbed my buffalo skin — get that motherwarrior.”

Bits & pieces

NOV. 3 Jeff Daniels splits “To Kill a Mockingbird.” After his final curtain a second curtain will rise showing new star Ed Harris.

Chirlane De Blasio and first son Dante attended “Slave Play.” Bought seats quietly. Attracted no attention. Did not split for intermission refreshments nor VIP specialness. Sat quietly. But looked stunned at the happenings onstage.

Rock bottom memory

A sad memory dredged up after seeing Renée Zellweger in the new movie “Judy”: It was 1968. This from a man who sent the story and said he’d worked in a Midtown hotel. Late one night, he said he witnessed Judy Garland drunk and destitute.

He recalls she was being led outside. Onto the curb. By security. He saw her sitting on her luggage. She cursed at passersby who glanced her way and screamed “Where the f–k is that goddamn rainbow?”

Minutes later a car came. Superstar Judy Garland then vanished into the night.

Quest fulfilled

Quest magazine’s CEO is Christopher Meigher III. The first and second’s, I don’t know. I only know at the third’s party at Doubles he said: “Our next issue celebrates 50 years of photographer Harry Benson, who’s nearly 90. Photographing the queen of England, he asked if her corgis sleep with her and Her Majesty said: ‘No. Because they snore.’ ”

Deluded Dems

B.S. from the Dems: “Milwaukee, July 13 to 16, is our convention city. It’s because Wisconsin’s a swing state. We’ll win them. Charm them.” Reply: “Yeah, but wherever’s a national convention ends up being hated because they’re pains to the host city locals who want them gone p.d.q.”

Reply: “But since they saw us and we spent money there, they’ll vote for us.”

The Roy Cohn documentary “Bully. Coward. Victim.” screened Sunday. VIP seats were allotted to me. A lady said: “These seats are mine. For my guests. Get up.” I said I was seated there because I’m in the film. Lady: “These are for important people. Not you. Leave.” And commandeered an usher to move me.

Oy. Only in New York, kids, only in New York.
