Weinstein accuser Annabella Sciorra calls testimony ‘painful but necessary’

Harvey Weinstein accuser Annabella Sciorra said her testimony at the fallen movie mogul’s trial was “painful but necessary” to change the culture of violence against women.

The onetime “Sopranos” TV actress released a statement on the heels of Weinstein’s conviction Monday for rape and sexual assault. But the 67-year-old disgraced producer was also acquitted on predatory sexual-assault charges that relied on Sciorra’s testimony he violently raped her in the winter months of 1993-1994.

“My testimony was painful but necessary,” Sciorra said in a statement. “I spoke for myself and with the strength of the 80-plus victims of Harvey Weinstein in my heart.

“While we hope for continued righteous outcomes that bring absolute justice, we can never regret breaking the silence. For speaking truth to power we pave the way for a more just culture, free of the scourge of violence against women.”

Sciorra — one of the star witnesses at trial — emotionally recounted to jurors the day Weinstein allegedly forced his way into her Gramercy Park apartment, held her down by the wrists and raped her before ejaculating on her nightgown.

From the witness stand, actress Rosie Perez corroborated Sciorra’s allegations and told jurors that Sciorra had confided in her about the incident.

Weinstein’s lawyers argued at trial that the encounters with all of his accusers were consensual.

The 12-person jury found Weinstein guilty on charges relating to forcibly performing oral sex on “Project Runway” production assistant Miriam “Mimi” Haleyi and for raping hairstylist Jessica Mann.

If Weinstein — who faces sexual misconduct allegations from over 90 women — had been convicted for the counts relating to the incident with Sciorra, he would have faced a potential life sentence.

At his March 11 sentencing, Weinstein — who was cuffed and taken into custody following the conviction — faces up to 29 years behind bars.

Weinstein’s lawyers say they plan to immediately appeal the conviction.

Weinstein’s rep, Juda Englmayer, said “We hope that [Sciorra] can find some solace in her life. Harvey wishes her well.”
