Stephen Colbert’s musical director, Jon Batiste, led a “love riot” through the streets of the Lower East Side Monday night.

Batiste began with a performance at Rockwood Music Hall — which is celebrating its 15th anniversary — then led his band and members of the Rockwood audience in a parade down the street. “He was playing the melodica while leading the band,” said a spy. “There was a group of 20 to 30 people recording and following.”

They ended up at the Canary Club.
