It's easy enough to be fooled by the myriad of things we see online every day. No one double-checks anything and immediately laugh reacts to stuff that paints other people in an unfortunate light made of stupidity and ignorance. A satire page named for a town in Ohio called Portsmouth has fooled people and news agencies multiple times and did it again today as Ed Sheeran trended on Twitter.

Even I was duped since the Facebook page looks like any generic town page, but if you bother to scroll down or look at any comments you can see it is a satire page. Back in May of 2019, another one of the page's posts picked up steam on social media, this one concerning a man masquerading as Travis Tritt.

The country star himself even took to his official Facebook page to assure people that the Portsmouth, Ohio page's post was pure bullsh*t.

Still, the Sheeran joke post made the rounds on Twitter earlier today, reaching a much larger audience of believers. As always, a quick check of the originating source would have cleared everything up, unless you think this is also true:

Remember kids, vet your posts before unleashing them on the dumber people of the world, AKA your Facebook friends and family. Otherwise you get a bunch of people thinking they're smarter than a fake church falling for a fake Ed Sheeran when they're falling for a fake story about a fake church and a fake Ed Sheeran. Think on that.
