Michelle Obama initially didn’t like Kehinde Wiley’s Barack Obama portrait

Michelle Obama wasn’t a fan of artist Kehinde Wiley’s initial draft of her husband’s presidential portrait.
“I got a call and [Barack Obama] said, ‘The first version that you made, I love it. But Michelle doesn’t,’” Wiley revealed at a talk with Swizz Beatz for Surface Magazine in Miami.
He added of creating the image: “I’m in the Oval Office, my hands are shaking. This incredibly tall dashing guy comes in … there’s certain personalities that know that they make you nervous, and so they’ve evolved — and he’s evolved — a way of making people feel comfortable.”
Wiley and Swizz arrived just in time to the Creative Minds Talk after a plane delay at the airport.
