Cameron Boyce is never far from Dove Cameron’s mind.
As part of the “24 Hours with Vogue” video series, the magazine followed Cameron, 23, about her day, which including rock climbing and a getting a commemorative tattoo for her “Descendants” co-star Boyce, who died in his sleep in July from an epilepsy-related seizure at age 20.
The tattoo is a revolver with a flower sticking out of its barrel, which Cameron describes as “sort of a nationally recognized symbol for peace and anti-gun movements.”
Cameron explains that before the younger actor’s death, he’d created an organization called Wielding Peace — now run by the Cameron Boyce Foundation — which uses photographs as a means for advocating the end of gun violence. In one portrait for the project, Boyce holds a bouquet of flowers.
“It was really beautiful, and I’ve been trying to think of a tattoo to get for him since he passed,” Cameron said, “and I just felt that this one was really appropriate.”
