In the battle between CGI blue hedgehogs and CGI canine companions to Harrison Ford, Sonic the Hedgehog reigned supreme this weekend. The video-game movie has already soared past $100 million domestically thanks to a $26.3 million second weekend, so that sequel is definitely happening. Will James Marsden return or will he finally get movies he deserves? Stay tuned to find out more!

Opening right behind it at number two with $24.8 million is The Call of the Wild, courtesy of 20th Century Productions. Yup, the 'Fox' has left the coop. That's a solid opening for such a film, but it's also a hugely expensive one that I doubt Disney ever cared all that much about promoting. It was something they acquired during the epic Fox merger and knew they needed to tolerate.

Sadly, things are slowing down for Birds of Prey, which has grossed $72.5 million in three weeks. This isn't a disaster. The movie will most likely break even and be an overall win for DC and Warner Bros. in terms of merchandise and general critical support. Still, it sucks that more people didn't give this one the attention it deserved.

Brahms: The Boy II, one of the clumsier movie titles of 2020, opened at number four with $5.9 million. It's a low-budget horror film released in February. It's doing all that it needs to do. Not much else to say, alas.

Parasite is currently the fourth highest-grossing foreign-language film in the history of the North American box office (not adjusted for inflation.) It'll never reach the incredible $128 million of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but I would be oh so satisfied if it got to number two and overtook Life is Beautiful.

In limited release news, the latest iteration of Jane Austen's Emma brought in $230,000 from five theaters, while the majesty of CatVideoFest 2020 grossed $220,150 from 30 locations. Hey, sometimes you just need cats. The biopic Seberg grossed $60,487 from three theaters but don't expect this one to set the box office alight if/when it expands.

This coming week sees the release of Michael Winterbottom's Greed and horror reboot The Invisible Man.
