The Dude Abides

October 20, 2020

Academy Award-winner Jeff Bridges has brought audiences an array of incredible performances, from The Last Picture Show to Starman, Crazy Heart, True Grit, Hell or Highwater, and--of course--The Big Lebowski. Bridges carries with him a warm confidence and easy affability that makes him believable in his bravado whether he's playing a grizzled cowboy or a carpet-seeking stoner. All of this is to say, Bridges has given audiences a wealth of joy. So, it's with a heavy heart that we report he's been diagnosed with cancer.

Nonetheless, it's not all bad news. Bridges shared the news on Twitter yesterday in a pair of tweets, in which he says his "prognosis is good."

It is unknown which form of lymphoma he has. However, his attitude is optimistic. He thanked followers for hopes and prayers but then encouraged them to get out there and vote.

THR notes Bridges is in production on the FX action-drama series The Old Man, in which he stars and executive produces. The team behind the show, which is slated to debut in 2021, released the following statement:

"Our thoughts go out to Jeff and his family during this challenging time and they have our love and support. We wish him a safe and full recovery. And, as Jeff always says, 'We are all in this together.' Jeff, we are all in this together with you."

Meanwhile, on Twitter, Bridges' mentions were full of love and support. Among the famous folk who wished him well were Jimmi Simpson, Billy Jensen, James Urbaniak, Barbara Crampton, Patricia Arquette, Donal Logue, Rosie Perez, Olivia Wilde, and George Takei.
