Colin Kaepernick's Mini-Me Has Been Cast in the Limited Series About His Life
Colin Kaepernick is getting a limited series about his life and Netflix has just cast Vampires vs. the Bronx star Jaden Michael to play the athlete-turned-activist during his high school years.
The limited series, called Colin in Black and White, already has a lot going for it. It was created by Kaepernick and director Ava DuVernay (who recently got into some hot water on Twitter after acting like she was better than others because she actually wished Trump a speedy recovery).
Colin in Black and White will consist of six episodes, with Kaepernick narrating the series. Considering that it's based on his life, expect the show to delve into Kaepernick's experience growing up with a white adopted family and his journey towards becoming a headlining football quarterback and civil rights activist. Kaepernick has, of course, been vocal about Black Lives Matter, systemic racism, and the overall oppression of Black people. His kneeling during the national anthem began in 2016 and has become a symbol of silent protest against systemic injustices. Colin in Black and White is basically planting the seeds for the man he would go on to become.
When They See Us writer Michael Starrbury will serve as showrunner, with him, DuVernay and Kaepernick serving as executive producers. A side-by-side photo of Michael and Kaepernick shows that the casting is honestly impeccable.
Meanwhile, if you haven't seen Vampires vs. the Bronx, it's definitely worth checking out. Michael has begun making a name for himself, having starred in The Get Down (remember this series? It was one of the first Netflix originals, though it was short-lived), Wonderstruck, and more. Colin in Black and White will probably put him on the map -- playing Kaepernick will do that.
I never thought I would be casting a young me in a show about my life. I can't wait for the world to see @ItsJadenMichael be an all-star on @netflix #ColinInBlackAndWhite @ava pic.twitter.com/ygb4F4kgM5
