Yup, I'm still here. Still doing box office reports. Still committed to watching Hollywood slowly crumble to pieces as the pandemic continues. What can I say, I take my job seriously and I live a very sad life. Shock horror, people still aren't returning in droves to the cinema. It doesn't help that a lot of theaters remain shut, either because of state restrictions or continued closures, like the Regal chain. Essentially, this is a weekly cycle of table scraps and delays.

But we did get a new film in the top spot this week. Yay? Honest Thief brought in a total gross of $4.2 million from 2,425 theaters. Reviews weren't great but it's a Liam Neeson punchy movie and I imagine that could be pretty cathartic for a lot of people right now. Right behind it is The War with Grandpa, last week's number one, which took in $2.5 million this weekend.

Blessed be for Warner Bros. because Tenet finally passed the $50 million mark domestically. That helps bring its worldwide gross to just under $334 million. Again, not brilliant given that the budget for this movie was reportedly $220 million, but right now, it's better than nothing, and that's about as optimistic as Hollywood can get these days. The strategy for a slow-burn months-long release for Tenet may not work, however, especially as we head into November. It's not that the competition is tough or anything, but viewers still want change, and there wasn't a lot of enthusiasm for the film as it is. Mixed-to-positive reviews and a lack of repeat viewings seemed to have hindered it on some level. Sorry, Nolan.

Disney has no fewer than four re-releases in the top 15 this week, which is certainly an interesting and more cost-effective strategy than pushing out anything new and pricey. At number four, the newest re-release for the company is The Nightmare Before Christmas, which grossed $1.323 million. Now we can continue to argue over whether it's a Christmas or Halloween movie!

There are actually five new titles in the top ten this week. 2 Hearts sits at number six with $565,000, while Love and Monsters is at number nine with $255,000, and right behind it is The Kid Detective with $135,000.
