“What We Do in the Shadows” star Natasia Demetriou is bummed out, rightfully so, that she won’t be attending her first Emmy Awards in person.

“I’m desperate to be invited to everything, but also so happy when things get canceled,” the actress, who plays Nadja on the Emmy-nominated FX series, told Page Six on Saturday, but “I mean, come on, watching [her co-star] Mark Proksch have red wine mouth at the Emmys, surrounded by really famous people, I can’t think of anything more fun.”

She added, “It’d be like going to Madame Tussauds, I wouldn’t even dress up in a dress, I’d just wear a Hawaiian shirt, cargo shorts and have a camera around my neck, taking pictures with people.”

“What We Do in the Shadows,” a mockumentary that follows a group of vampire roommates living on Staten Island, is nominated for eight awards at the 2020 Emmys, including outstanding comedy series.

When news broke in July that the show had been nominated, Demetriou was visiting friends in her native London.

“One of them has just had a baby during lockdown and I found out, and I threw the baby across the room. Luckily the baby survived,” she joked, before explaining that she was with two of her oldest friends, a teacher and a nurse.

“It was a humbling experience because, you know, they have real-life issues, like having children and having mortgage and are key workers. It was a beautiful moment, but also kept me very grounded because I was with key workers,’ she continued.

When it comes to the competition, Demetriou is in good company this year with shows including “Schitt’s Creek,” “Dead to Me” and “The Good Place.”

“All those shows that our show is up against, they’re all really, really amazing shows, I wish all of them had been canceled and our show was the only one in every category,” she said. “Catherine O’Hara is my absolute idol, so it’s very intimidating and humbling company.”

Ironically, there’s even a little bit of family competition this year as Demetriou’s brother Jamie had a role in Hulu’s “The Great,” which is up against “Shadows” in the comedy writing category. Jamie also starred in Season 1 of “Fleabag,” which took home four Emmys in 2019.

“The rodent in ‘Fleabag’ and the rodent in my life,” she joked of her brother’s character on the Phoebe Waller-Bridge series. “He’s my best friend, I love him so much.”

As for her plans on Sunday, she admitted she was a bit nervous.

“FX sent me this amazing box of Champagne and cookies,” she said. “Unfortunately, I ate all the cookies within like two seconds of opening the box, but I’ll light the candle they sent, have some Champagne and probably be texting the cast and send them dumb photos of my face.”
