Keith McNally is making friends online again.
After Page Six reported that the legendary restaurateur was accused of libel after claiming as a bizarre joke that a well-respected creative director had skipped out on a bill, we’re told McNally has now upset Chinese Americans.
On Wednesday, he posted a pic of Anna Wintour with an anecdote about how — as a young editor — Wintour had asked for eggs Benedict at a restaurant that he was managing, but the kitchen had just closed.
He said he tried to convince the “Chinese chef” to cook it anyway, telling the chef she was “pretty.” He said that the cook “exploded and threw his saute pan at me: ‘If she so pretty, you make her Eggs Benny!’”
When writer Faith Xue replied, “Great story but don’t see why it was necessary to mention the chef was Chinese or imitate his accent,” McNally brushed her off. “I showed 3 of my Chinese friends the story with and without the reference to the chef being Chinese, but each one of my Chinese friends urged me to keep it in,” he wrote.
