Public Theater postpones ‘digital gala’ over protests

June 01, 2020

The Public Theater has postponed its starry digital gala due to the protests around the country.

The downtown theater company had been expecting to host Meryl Streep, Alicia Keys, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Antonio Banderas, Glenn Close and more at the We Are One Public online party Monday night.

“This is a time for mourning and reflection,” the New York City-based theater company said in a statement. “It has taken us far too long to proclaim the simple truth: Black Lives Matter. We must stand in solidarity with Black artists, Black staff members and the Black community.”
