Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is giving many North Americans their first look at the bonkers wonders of its real-life inspiration. For Europeans (and Australians), the Eurovision Song Contest has been an enormous annual event for decades. Its audience is twice that of our puny Super Bowl. But in the U.S. and Canada, it's not widely broadcast. Not even Rachel McAdams had seen the big show before signing on to star in the Will Ferrell comedy all about it. She tells the story of her first exposure to this stunning cultural extravaganza on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Not only did Ferrell and McAdams attend the real Eurovision Song Contest, they performed as Fire Saga there so the Netflix movie could get crowd shots. But the crowd that turned out for "the Olympics of music" were not into it. "They were just shy of booing us off the stage," McAdams recalls. The people of Iceland were far more welcoming when the film shot on location there. "We felt like we really were living there," she says.
