Embattled “Good Place” actress Jameela Jamil has defended herself after a thread by writer Tracie Egan Morrissey on the latter’s Instagram Stories  that accused Jamil of having Munchausen’s Syndrome went viral this week.

While a variant of Munchausen’s Syndrome, Munchausen by proxy, was at the center of Hulu’s “The Act” — the story of Dee Dee Blanchard and her daughter Gypsy Rose — Morrissey theorized that Jamil’s many stories about her personal health — and the alleged contradictions within those stories — are indicative of the “main” disorder, where an individual repeatedly and knowingly fakes mental or physical illnesses for attention. The thread was spreading across social media Tuesday, and Jamil evidently caught wind of it Wednesday, returning to Twitter to knock down the rumors.

“First I’m lying about my sexuality, now I’m now being accused of munchausens?” she wrote. “By an unhinged idiot who didn’t even realize in all her ‘research’ that my car accident injury stories are ‘different’ because they were about TWO SEPARATE CAR ACCIDENTS 13 years apart? You can keep it.”

Jamil went on a lengthy point-by-point clarification of Egan’s accusations, ultimately concluding, “Not afraid of you or your dumb internet conspiracy theories. Keep them coming. You just add to my relevance. I’m gonna keep helping people with eating disorders, and changing laws and global policies to protect kids and their mental health and there’s NOTHING you can do about it.”

Previously on the Jameela Jamil Twitter show, the actress, 33, came out as queer after receiving backlash over her involvement in the forthcoming HBO show “Legendary,” which focuses on drag and ballroom culture. After pinning part of the blame for the controversy on “mistakes” of the journalists involved, Jamil announced that “Twitter is brutal” and said she’d be taking a break from the platform.
