The CW has shifted to become the home of a number of superhero shows over the years. With the exception of Black Lightning, the rest of the shows -- including The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, et al -- are collectively known as the Arrowverse. With six DC Comics properties currently airing on the network and two spinoffs in development, you'd think the network time slots were all booked up, but nope. The CW is adding yet another white-led superhero show to their line-up: Stargirl.

The only difference is that this series, which stars Brec Bassinger in the titular role, will air on both The CW AND DC Universe, the streaming service that exclusively airs DC Comic adaptations like Titans and Doom Patrol. Per The CW, the deal is basically this: DC Universe will air Stargirl and then The CW will air the show the next day. This is the first deal of this nature between The CW and DC Universe, and I wonder what it'll mean for all of the streaming service's shows down the line. Additionally, The CW is also developing two other shows within the shared Arrowverse: Superman and Lois and Green Arrow and the Canaries.

Back to Stargirl. Yes, it's another female-fronted superhero show, but it's yet another series starring a white woman (and that means white feminism will probably prevail. Just ask Supergirl). In fact, every single superhero show in the Arrowverse has a white lead. Every. Single. One. Where are all the people of color? Why aren't they getting their own series? It's a glaring issue. Black Lightning shouldn't be the only superhero property on the network with a black lead. That's ridiculous. One can argue that the shows have plenty of diversity (and a lot of them do), but there needs to be more people of color, and specifically, women of color, leading their own series as well. It's 2019, c'mon now. I love these shows, I really do, but it's time for some serious change.

Stargirl doesn't have a premiere date yet but expect it to begin airing in the second quarter of 2020 on DC Universe and The CW.
