PSA: Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross’ WAVES Score Is Now Available

It's a good time to be a Reznor/Ross nerd.

By Nov. 27, 2019

If you're a fan of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (which, as I'm sure you've noticed by now, we surely are here at Birth.Movies.Death.), the past few months have been quite the ride: the pair won a Country Music Award thanks to Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" (which features a sample from a song co-credited to Reznor/Ross); the duo's work on Watchmen has been exemplary, and was split between three new albums (one's already been released, the second arrives next week, and a third will arrive later in December); a brand-new 4XLP set covering the pair's Bird Box score (and a number of "extended compositions and explorations") was announced, and now Reznor/Ross are back in theaters with a new score for Trey Edward Shults' Waves...

...And now they've released that Waves score, as well. The announcement arrived yesterday evening, via Nine Inch Nails' website:

WAVES (ORIGINAL SCORE)

CURRENTLY ONLY AVAILABLE IN DIGITAL FORMAT, TRENT AND ATTICUS ARE AT THEIR MOST ABSTRACT, DECONSTRUCTED AND BEAUTIFUL WITH THIS SUITE OF MUSIC THAT GLUES TREY EDWARD SHULTS’ EMOTIONALLY DEVASTATING FILM TOGETHER.

Yes, it's another 77 minutes' worth of excellent Reznor/Ross compositions, available right now via digital download (added bonus: the $7.99 pricetag). It's here that I'll confess to not having seen Waves yet, but literally everyone I've spoken to who has says the same thing: the movie's an emotional powerhouse, and the Reznor/Ross score (which, as it turns out, is just a part of the sprawling sonic landscape Shults orchestrated for the film) whips ass. I downloaded last night and have been listening ever since - so far it's everything you'd want from a Reznor/Ross project, with tracks ranging from "sinister" to "uplifting" and everything in between. It's well worth your $8, that's for sure.

Anyway, just wanted to make everyone aware that this is now available! Trey Edward Shults' Waves is now in theaters. I'll be catching it as soon as possible.
