Shawn Mendes duets with Taylor Swift on ‘Lover’ remix

November 13, 2019

Taylor Swift and Shawn Mendes are in “love.”

Don’t worry Camila Cabello-loyalists: it’s just for a song. The two pop stars have teamed up on a duet remix of Swift’s single “Lover,” they announced Wednesday morning.

The ballad now has Mendes, 21, performing a newly-added verse, singing the lyrics, “We can light a bunch of candles and dance around the kitchen, baby / Pictures of when we were young hang on the wall / We’ll sit on the stoop / I’ll sing love songs to you / See I finally got you / Now honey I won’t let you fall.”

The romantic verse had fans in a tizzy, with many commenting on YouTube that they were mostly there for Mendes’ voice.

“OMG OMG OMG IM DYING THIS IS INSANE. TAYLOR AND SHAWN OMG,” one enthusiastic fan wrote.

“Shawn sounds heavenly in this,” another commented.

Swift tweeted adulation to Mendes — “Sending out a whole entire THANKS BUDDY,” she posted — in a note about the “COLLABORASHAWN” early Wednesday morning. “I’m so stoked that our remix of Lover is out NOW!” she said. In an accompanying video she said she’s always been a “really big” fan of Mendes, and has been hoping to perform with him for a while.

Meanwhile, Mendes — who’s been dating Cabello since the summer — announced the news himself later on social media, thanking Swift for “letting me join on such a beautiful song.”

The original single from Swift, 29, debuted in August as the third single from her album by the same name. The dreamy ballad is “like a slow dance you never want to end,” The Post’s music critic wrote at the time. Other Swift songs on the album included “ME!” and “You Need to Calm Down.”

Swift will soon appear in “Bluebird,” an upcoming documentary that centers on Nashville venue The Bluebird Cafe, the legendary spot she once performed in.
