Demi Lovato on baptism in Jordan River: ‘I’ve never felt more renewed’

Demi Lovato shared a few photos from her trip to Israel on social media Tuesday, calling the experience “so important for my well-being, my heart, and my soul.”

The 27-year-old singer — who journeyed to Yad Vashem: The World Holocaust Center in Jerusalem and the Shalva National Center, which helps people with disabilities, during her travels — also reflected on her baptism in the Jordan River, saying, “I’ve never felt more renewed in my life.”

“I was raised Christian and have Jewish ancestors,” Lovato captioned a collection of images on Instagram. “When I was offered an amazing opportunity to visit the places I’d read about in the Bible growing up, I said yes.”

She continued, “There is something absolutely magical about Israel. I’ve never felt such a sense of spirituality or connection to God … something I’ve been missing for a few years now. Spirituality is so important to me… to be baptized in the Jordan river — the same place Jesus was baptized.”

Lovato also reflected on how grateful she is “for the memories made and the opportunity to be able to fill the God-sized hole in my heart.”

In separate slideshows, Lovato also posted images from her visits to Yad Vashem and the Shalva National Center.

“My heart was absolutely broken in Yad Vashem,” she wrote. “This was such a beautiful tribute and a reminder that we can never forget.”
