Businessman (and convicted scammer) Adam Hochfelder panicked over upcoming exposé
Philippe Chow owner Adam Hochfelder is said to be sweating over an upcoming Real Deal exposé on him.
Insiders told Page Six that Hochfelder — who previously served prison time for scamming banks, friends and family out of more than $20 million — has been threatening editors and writers at the real estate publication in an effort to get them to kill their planned piece.
“He’s gone out of his way to stop the story, threatening with stupid s –t,” said a source. “He came to the office, parked outside and insisted on speaking with the publisher … He’d dug up ‘dirt’ on reporters and editors and was threatening to spread rumors. He had all these documents and it was stuff like, ‘This person owes college debts.’ And it was bogus.”
Another source added, “He pulled up in a blue Rolls-Royce with two Mafia-looking goons, but the story is still going to run.” Real Deal publisher Amir Korangy confirmed, “It’s true he had sought to stand in the way of our reporting.”
A rep for Hochfelder did not respond to the allegations. Hochfelder’s firm, Merchants Hospitality, owns other eateries such as the Playboy Club.
