During the O.J. Simpson trial, Carrie Fisher supported prosecutor Marcia Clark.
In “Carrie Fisher: A Life on the Edge,’” Clark tells author Sheila Weller that she had to ask Judge Lance Ito during the televised trial for a half-day off to deal with child-care issues. “I thought I was gonna get slammed by the public with ‘She can’t handle it as a prosecutor! Women can’t do this job!’ ” she said.
But Clark walked into court the next day, and there was a “huge basket of flowers from Carrie, with a note that was so empathic and right on, it made me think, ‘Oh, my God … This is what I needed!’”
The two had not yet met, but like Clark, Fisher was also a single mom at the time. The book’s out Nov. 12 from Sarah Crichton Books/FSG.
