Expect to see Targaryens riding their dragons over Westeros — again.
HBO has green-lit a 10-episode “Game of Thrones” prequel titled “House of the Dragon,” based on author George R.R. Martin’s novel “Fire & Blood.”
HBO executive Casey Bloys announced the news at the HBO Max investors presentation on Tuesday.
“The Game of Thrones universe is so rich with stories,” says Casey Bloys said. “We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros.”
“House of the Dragon” takes place 300 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and depicts ancestors of Daenerys Targaryen, who was played by actress Emilia Clarke, fighting a civil war in the Seven Kingdoms.
The show is co-created by Martin and writer Ryan Condal. It is executive produced by Vince Gerardis and Emmy-winning director Miguel Sapochnik — who helped create GOT episodes “Hardhome,” “Battle of the Bastards,” “The Long Night,” “Winds of Winter,” and “The Bells.”
Sapochnik will direct the pilot and additional episodes and Condal will pen the script with Martin.
Former “Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will have no involvement in the “House of Dragon.”
No premiere date has been announced.
