Andi Dorfman‘s passion for running didn’t develop overnight.
“I have always been into fitness but never into running, in fact, I used to despise it,” the Season 10 star of “The Bachelorette” recently told Page Six. “I’d look at people that ran and think they were crazy.”
But with a busy schedule, Dorfman, 32, who will participate this year’s TCS New York City Marathon, produced by NYRR, had to tweak her exercise regimen by incorporating running in lieu of a gym.
“I was traveling more and more and I found that running was the easiest way to get a workout in rather than try and find a gym. And I was able to explore the different cities I was in by running, so it just became my main form of exercise,” she explained.
In preparation for the marathon, Dorfman said she has adjusted her workouts, as well as her diet.
“I am obviously running a lot more, and doing less weights,” she said. “As far as the diet goes, I’ve always eaten healthy. Now I eat the same amount of food if not more, but in a more purposeful way. So for example, before a run, I’ll stock my body up with a lot of carbs and after a run I’ll be sure to intake a lot of protein. So I’ve really learned what foods provided what fuel for my body.”
Though Dorfman has long been supported by loved ones, members of Bachelor Nation have also reached out to offer words of encouragement ahead of the Nov. 3 marathon.
“A lot of former ‘Bachelorettes’ like Becca Kufrin [of Season 14], Des [Desiree Hartsock of Season 9] and JoJo [Fletcher of Season 12], that are constantly checking in with me and supporting me,” Dorfman said. “Tyler Cameron is running as well, and we have become good friends from it and we do a good job at checking in and encouraging one another and sharing tips.
“There have been a lot of Bachelor Nation fans that have purchased items from the Andorfins merchandise line that benefits Girls on the Run, and it’s been cool to see all the Bachelor fans wearing the gear and supporting a great cause,” she also shared of the female-focused nonprofit.
As for future marathons, Dorfman is taking it one race at a time.
“Definitely not this year. But who knows,” she said. “I think I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how cool the training experience is and the feeling of pushing my body and mind.”
