Judy Chicago — famed for her ’70s feminist work “The Dinner Party” — was honored at the Museum of Arts and Design’s virtual Mad Ball this week with a unique award.
Artist Trulee Hall created a crown for Chicago made of HeatForm moldable thermoplastic sheets with “a vaginal opening, pink velvet center, snake symbols, which are the archetype phallus, and spoons referencing Judy’s ‘The Dinner Party.’ ” Donning the headgear, Chicago teared up when making her speech.
“The Dinner Party” includes a banquet table with 39 place settings, each commemorating an important woman in history with “vulvar and butterfly forms.”
