Jonathan Wright behind Tekashi 6ix9ine’s post-prison lace-front wig

Celebrity hairstylist Jonathan Wright convinced Tekashi 6ix9ine to wear a lace-front wig as the rapper’s new look after his release from prison.

Wright told Page Six he was recently doing the hair of a friend of Tekashi’s when “Tekashi was sitting there and I looked at him I said, ‘I’m putting a wig on you.’ And he said, ‘Boy, stop, you ain’t putting a wig on me.’ And that was the day, I believe, when he shot ‘Gooba’ with Nicki [Minaj].”

The rapper was recently released from prison on racketeering and other charges, but quickly got back to work by releasing the single “Gooba,” with a video in which he sports multicolored braids under a backwards ball cap. The comeback was even teased on a Times Square billboard.

Wright added, “The next day, I tried the slime-green-and-purple wig on him. I told him, ‘I promise, you will look like a rock star.’ ” The wild look went viral. “Tekashi thought I was messing with him,” Wright recalled.

But “it really looked like right on him … He loved the ponytail look. I love the braids, personally. People will copy you after a while — so why not be the first rap artist to do that?” (Tekashi had already sparked a rash of rainbow-colored ’dos among the fashion-forward set.)

“I’m actually on my way to him this evening for his next look,” Wright said. “I might do a half-and-half: a red rainbow and a full gold metallic look. I’d like to try to push the buttons.”
