GOOD NEWS: Stolen Mama Bear Recovered, Ryan Reynolds Celebrates

July 29, 2020

Earlier this week, we shared the story of a stolen teddy bear that meant to the world to one Vancouver woman. Now, we're thrilled to report, mama bear has come home.

Last Friday, Mara Soriano (28) was moving apartments in Vancouver when her backpack was stolen by a caught-on-tape thief. The bag contained official documents, including her passport, electronics like an iPad and Nintendo Switch, as well as her most prized possession: a Build-a-Bear with a recording of her late mother's voice inside.

Soriano shared her story on Missing posters, social media, and local news hoping to have the bear returned. She emphasized the other stolen items or retribution wasn't her concern, only recovering the cuddly memento that says, "I love you" in her mother's voice.

Celebrities, including Ryan Reynolds, Dany Levy, and Taika Waititi joined the search by signal-boosting, and even offering a reward for the doll's safe return. Once the bear was returned, Soriano tagged Reynolds, trusting him to share the good news with the world.

Soriano expressed relief that "two kind Samaritans" returned the doll, which was unharmed aside from the loss of its glasses.

And a much needed happy ending was achieved.
