Ken Langone gets Joe Biden dig in during chance Jennifer Bayer Michaels meet
Billionaire Ken Langone made a humorous dig at a Joe Biden aide at a power Manhattan lunch spot, by joking the 77-year-old former veep should “admit himself to an old-age home.”
The 84-year-old co-founder of Home Depot and Invemed CEO was introduced to Jennifer Bayer Michaels, a top Democratic fund-raiser who was just hired to lead efforts for Biden’s super PAC in New York. According to a witness, Langone was getting ready to leave Fresco by Scotto on Monday when attorney and lobbyist Brad Gerstman, who was dining at a nearby table, beckoned him over and introduced him to Michaels.
Langone, a major GOP backer and supporter of President Trump, didn’t tame his trademark candor, telling Michaels, “Tell [Biden] to get the hell out of the race.” After Langone walked toward the door, witnesses said he turned back to add, “Tell Biden to admit himself to an old-age home,” to which Michaels responded, “You go first.”
A spokeswoman for “I Love Capitalism!” author Langone confirmed the exchange but said his remark was an off-the-cuff joke in response to the surprise introduction to Michaels — one of the biggest names in Democratic fund-raising who’s been behind candidates such as Sen. Chuck Schumer and Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Langone has praised Trump for his handling of the economy and China, and says he’ll be re-elected in 2020. During a recent appearance on Fox Business, he said Elizabeth Warren will “make a mess” if she wins. But Langone was also a fan of former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg.
