The man behind the wheel of comedian Kevin Hart‘s car was driving recklessly and caused the Sept. 1 crash that seriously injured Hart, authorities said in a report released Thursday.
Jared Black was driving Hart’s 1970 Plymouth Barracuda in Los Angeles when he accelerated into a turn on Mulholland Highway and lost control of the car, according to the report from California Highway Patrol.
The car then slid down an embankment and slammed into a tree, according to the report.
Both Hart and Black’s fiancee, Rebecca Broxterman, were riding in the car as passengers, police said. Hart and Black both suffered serious back injuries, while Broxterm had minor injuries.
Hart issued a statement through his lawyer Thursday, praising Broxterman and Black.
“I have nothing but love for Jared and wish him and Rebecca a speedy recovery,” he said.
Hart is still recovering from the crash and doing physical therapy at his home, his lawyer said.
