Stand-Up Comedian And 'You' Star Chris D'Elia Accused Of Grooming Teen Girls

June 17, 2020

Why is Chris D'Elia trending on Twitter? A number of young women have used the platform to come forward with allegations that the stand-up comedian attempted to groom them for sexual favors when many of them were underage. This comes just six months after D'Elia co-starred in Season 2 of You, in which he played a stand-up comedian who used his fame to lure female minors into sexual scenarios.

Newsweek reports the allegations started with Simoné (Twitter handle @girlpowertbh), who posted a thread of screenshots from her 2014 exchanges with D'Elia.

More Twitter users followed her example, sharing stories, screenshots, and pics.

Then, D'Elia became the focus of @SheRatesDogs, a Twitter account where users are encouraged to anonymously DM stories of nightmare exes. SheRatesDogs then posts the screenshots with the identifying info clipped out. In this thread, users shared more allegations of grooming, but also indecent exposure, blackmail, and harassment. Here are a few of many:

According to these allegations, D'Elia has a pattern of using social media and e-mail to contact young female fans. He asks for pics, sometimes specifically nude photos. Sometimes he asks for their age; sometimes he does not. He invites them backstage or to his hotel room, requesting "cuddles" or sex. In one instance, he allegedly blackmailed an 18-year-old to visit him under threat he'd share the nudes she'd sent if she refused.

D'Elia has not yet responded. Neither has You's makers nor Netflix, which recently released a new stand-up special from D'Elia.
