Tom Hanks doesn’t just play Fred Rogers in an upcoming biopic about the lovable kids’ television host — he’s actually related to him, a report said Tuesday.
A check done by Ancestry.com revealed that Rogers and Hanks are far-flung relatives and actually share the same same great-great-great-great-great grandfather, CBS News reported.
Hanks is technically a sixth cousin to Rogers, who he portrays in the upcoming film “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”
The “Saving Private Ryan” actor and his wife, Rita Wilson, apparently learned of the relation when they were asked about it by an Access Hollywood reporter at a screening for the film on Monday.
“It all just comes together, you see,” Hanks told the outlet when they showed him the Ancestry.com tree.
The movie, which hits theaters Friday, tells the story of Rogers and an Esquire journalist who was sent to profile the affable television host.
