This Coming May, 1998’s ‘Godzilla’ Stomps Onto 4K Ultra HD

February 13, 2019

Just a couple weeks before Michael Dougherty’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters is unleashed into theaters, we’ve learned this week that Sony will be capitalizing on the Big G’s renewed relevance with a 4K Ultra HD release of Roland Emmerich’s Godzilla, the oft-maligned Kaiju flick from 1998 that starred Matthew Broderick and, well, an interesting looking King.

(There are things I do like about the film but yeah, it’s mostly a big ole dud.)

Godzilla has been remastered in 4K from the original camera negative with High Dynamic Range and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, with the following special features included:

  • Audio commentary by visual effects supervisor Volker Engel and associate visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas
  • Behind the scenes of Godzilla with Charles Caiman
  • All-Time Best-of Godzilla Fight Scenes
  • “Heroes” music video by The Wallflowers

Godzilla hits 4K Ultra HD (+ Blu-ray + Digital) on May 14th.
