Paramount Just Bumped ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ Movie Off Their 2019 Release Schedule

February 28, 2019

This coming Halloween season was looking to be pretty huge for fans of the ’90s series “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”, as both a revival TV series and a big screen movie were on the way. But all of that has been called into question tonight, sadly, as we’ve learned that Paramount has wiped the feature film off their 2019 release slate entirely.

Twitter’s @BoxOffice informs us…

Are You Afraid of the Dark?, previously slated for 10/4/19, now has no release date.”

Nickelodeon’s small screen revival was going to coincide with the release of the movie, so if the movie isn’t coming out this October, it’s possible the series has been delayed as well.

The show revolved around a group of teenagers who referred to themselves as The Midnight Society. Every week, at a secret location in the woods, one member would tell a scary story to the rest of the group, some of which were based on public domain fairy tales, short stories or urban legends. The new film will be a completely original story told by The Midnight Society.

The movie is said to “honor the darker, scarier tone of the show.

D.J. Caruso is directing a script penned by Gary Dauberman and BenDavid Grabinski.
