Sorry, Sarah Michelle Gellar Doesn’t Have Anything to Do With That “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” Reboot
What’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” without Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers? Well, it’s a full-on remake is what it is, and the upcoming revival that’s currently in development at Fox 21 TV Studios will indeed be a full-on remake. In a new chat with The Wrap, the ’90s scream queen assures that she has nothing to do with the new “Buffy.”
“I don’t know anything about it, honestly,” Gellar told the site.
“I think that it’s a great story and I’m glad that it will get retold and hope that people will watch it. But, you know, I’ve told my story with it.”
She continued, “For me the beauty of the show was the madness and horrors of high school manifesting in actual literal horrors. And I may look young, thanks to all my Olay products, but I don’t look like I’m a kid. (laughs)”
Midnight, Texas creator Monica Owusu-Breen has been tapped as writer, executive producer and showrunner of the new “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” with the original series’ creator and showrunner Joss Whedon set to executive produce alongside original series’ exec producers Gail Berman, Fran Kazui and Kaz Kazui as well as Joe Earley from Berman’s Jackal Group.
“The new version will be contemporary, building on the mythology of the original.”
“Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today,” the producers tease.
Created by Joss Whedon, the original series ran from 1997 to 2003.
