Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Arrival, Blade Runner: 2049) has put together one hell of a stacked cast for Dune, his adaptation of Frank Herbert’s epic saga for Legendary that could potentially become a franchise. Tonight we’ve learned that it’s arriving in theaters on November 20, 2020!
Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson will lead the cast, with Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Oscar Isaac, Charlotte Rampling and Zendaya also starring. Jason Momoa is currently in negotiations to join the cast as Duncan Idaho.
“Set in the distant future, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides (Chalamet), whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.”
Villeneuve wrote the script, along with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts.
