Retail stores in Montauk were shuttered last weekend over what seemed to be a misunderstanding over rules for reopening.
“There were six cops in front of our doors,” Kelly B. shop owner Kelly Brown told us. “Then they called [the department of] code enforcement. It was ridiculous.”
On Monday, East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc had an impromptu meeting with owners, and the rules (which allow pickup) were cleared up. “I can’t tell you how much this means to us,” Brown said. “We are a small business.”
Outdoor dining will be allowed starting Wednesday after a letter from Suffolk County officials to Gov. Cuomo.
