Garth Brooks watched the Whitney Houston documentary to learn what not to do

November 19, 2019

When making his biographical documentary, country veteran Garth Brooks says he learned how to do it (or how not to do it) by watching a Whitney Houston doc.

“I love Whitney Houston, and when you see her documentary, a lot of the subtitles say ‘historian’ or ‘expert.’ But did they even know her?” he asked us at the Bowery Hotel launch party for his A&E doc “The Road I’m On.”

In it, “everybody they … talk to was standing right there the moment it happened.”

He also said that — in spite of the huge success his contemporary Billy Ray Cyrus has had recording “Old Town Road” with Lil Nas X — he won’t be making a hip-hop track. “Oh, no. For one, I am not cool,” he said. “I am the squarest guy on the planet.”

Part one of the two-part “The Road I’m On” premieres on Dec. 2 on A&E.
