Mom And Son Go Missing, But Two Years Later Cops Discover Hidden Wall At Grandma’s House

January 30, 2018

It’s not uncommon to hear stories of how children suffer the most when their parents go through a difficult divorce, but I bet you’ve never heard a story quite as heartbreaking as this one.

Michael Chekevdia and Shannon Wilfong separated in 2007. The custody battle for their four-year-old son, Richard, was cruel and would end up changing his life forever. Despite allegations from his mother that his father was abusive, Chekevdia was granted full custody of little Richard.

Unsatisfied with the court’s ruling, Wilfong took matters into her own hands and fled her Illinois home with Richard in tow. Immediately a missing person report was filed and Chekevdia feared he’d never see his son again.

The police searched for the pair for two years, but all efforts turned up empty. While the home of Richard’s maternal grandmother had long been suspected to be Wilfong’s hiding place, multiple searches found no trace of Richard or his mother.

Then, in 2009, an anonymous tip led police back to Diane Dobbs, Richard’s grandmother. This time, a thorough search of her home revealed something no one was expecting. There was a secret room behind a wall.
