Donald Trump: Federal Agents Raid Former President’s Home at Mar-a-Lago

August 09, 2022

Donald Trump continued to secure his place as the most bonkers figure in the history of the American presidency on Monday night when he took to social media to complain that federal agents had raided his home in Palm Beach, Florida.

Trump is still banned from Twitter, so he shared his tale of woe through a statement posted to his own Truth Social site.

It seems that dozens of agents converged on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and social club and conducted a thorough search of the property.

As the former president complained in his statement, “They even broke into my safe!”

In classic Trump hyperbolic fashion, the former president also claimed that his home was “under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents.”

And what was this army of G-men looking for?

Well, according to a statement from Trump’s son Eric, the raid, which would required the approval of a high-ranking federal judge, possibly even Attorney General Merrick Garland, had to do with the alleged mishandling of classified documents.

“The purpose of the raid was, from what they said, was because the National Archives wanted to corroborate whether or not Donald Trump had any documents in his possession,” Eric told Fox News on Monday night.

“And my father has worked so collaboratively with them for months. In fact, the lawyer that’s been working on this was totally shocked,” the former president’s son continued.

“He goes, ‘I have such an amazing relationship with these people and all of a sudden, on no notice, they send 20 cars and 30 agents?'”

Trump, of course, has been under scrutiny from several investigating bodies in recent months.

In addition to the January 6 congressional hearings, Trump is being investigated in connection with allegedly illicit business practices in New York.

That investigation was temporarily delayed following the death of Trump’s ex-wife Ivana last month.

Regardless of what happens next, there’s a good chance that the raid will be remembered as a watershed moment in contemporary American politics.

One possibility is that Trump will be charged with a crime.

Another is that he will not be charged, and his supporters will point to the raid as another example of what they see as unlawful persecution of Trump and his family.

“The raid of MAL is another escalation in the weaponization of federal agencies against the Regime’s political opponents, while people like Hunter Biden get treated with kid gloves,” Florida governor Ron DeSantis tweeted last night.

“Now the Regime is getting another 87k IRS agents to wield against its adversaries? Banana Republic.”

You can expect much more rhetoric of that nature between now and November’s midterm elections.

As for Trump, he’ll likely continue to rail against the raid and the people he believes are responsible for it.

“After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate,” he said in Monday’s statement.

Trump went on to blame Democrats and accuse them of trying to deter him from running for president in 2024.

We’ll have further updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
