Matt Roloff is coping the best he can at the moment.
The Little People, Big World star lost his father just under a month ago, writing on Instagram at the time:
“A sad week for the Roloff Family.. my dad… affectionately known as ‘papa’ to his 10 grandchildren and his 10 great grandkids peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior yesterday evening.
“Ron was an amazing Husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and inspiration to many.”
Now, in a follow-up post, Roloff has expressed appreciation to his fans and supporters, while also providing an update about his mom.
“You realize there are still many many positive people out there ..and lots of hope for society when your gate agent And your flight attendant ask….. “How’s your mother doing?” … as I board my 4th flight in 3 weeks…” wrote Matt as a caption to the photos above and below.
“They’ve seen me going back and forth to AZ more than normal…”
Along this same personal line, the father of four continued:
“Obviously, we all are missing my father and she’s still adjusting to doing things on her own after 63 years of having him by her side..
“but she has a lot of new friends that are dealing with all the same issues and challenges so she definitely is not alone.
“She’s surrounded by constant love and support. and many new and very close friends.”
Matt has been away from his farm on a number of occasions this month due to this tragedy.
He’s yet to find a buyer for the 16 acres he put up for sale back in May, but explained in this same post that the property is being well cared-for.
“I’m feeling good knowing that I can hop a plane and leave the farm in great hands with Jacob, Jason, Nico, and the team back in Oregon,” the TLC personality wrote.
“I’m blessed to be able to visit my mother and help her through this transitional time.”
In 2021, Ron Roloff was diagnosed with CLL blood cancer, for which he eventually underwent treatment.
In Matt’s August 1 Instagram post, he said his dad “literally loved people and anyone who ever came in contact with him knows that!
“His love for Jesus was so evident throughout his entire life and certainly in his final hours.”
As he looks ahead to a new season of Little People, Big World, Roloff took an extra moment this weekend to thank viewers of the popular program.
“Thank you all for all the kind, love, cards and words of support,” the family patriarch said.
We continue to send our best wishes to Matt, his mother and all of their loved ones.

Over the course of the past week, Meghan Markle has ended her self-imposed media exile and repeatedly spoken out against the people who made her life so miserable in the early years of her marriage.
We’ve known for quite some time that she never got along well with the royal family or the British tabloid press, but it now seems that the situation was even worse than we realized.
First, Meghan revealed on her podcast that her son Archie was involved in a house fire in 2019.
Ever the insensitive clods, the lackeys who do the royals’ dirty work insisted that Meghan and Harry continue with their royal tour of South Africa, despite the massive trauma they had just endured.
The Duchess doubled down in her criticism this week in a scathing interview with The Cut.
In one of her most shocking allegations yet, Meghan claimed that members of the Royal Rota — the Queen’s approved pool of journalists — used racial slurs in reference to Meghan and Harry’s children.
The Duchess says that despite this, she was expected to continue participating in a corrupt “exchange game” by providing the Rota with exclusive photos and information in exchange for favorable coverage.
“There’s literally a structure by which if you want to release photos of your child, as a member of the family, you first have to give them to the Royal Rota,” she told The Cut.
“Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child?” Meghan asked.
“You tell me how that makes sense and then I’ll play that game.”
Meghan added that this subservience was an especially difficult adjustment for her, as she had previously enjoyed the life of an independent, self-made woman.
“It was a big adjustment — a huge adjustment to go from that kind of autonomy to a different life,” she said.
Obviously, the revelation that Meghan was expected to continue working with the Rota despite instances of blatant racism is appalling.
But equally shocking is the fact that she and Harry were expected to immediately resume their royal duties following Archie’s brush with death.
“When we went on our tour to South Africa, we landed with Archie,” Meghan revealed on her podcast.
“Archie was what, 4 and a half months old. And the moment we landed, we had to drop him off at this housing unit that they had had us staying in.
“We immediately went to an official engagement in this township called Nyanga, and there was this moment where I’m standing on a tree stump and I’m giving this speech to women and girls, and we finish the engagement, we get in the car and they say:
“‘There’s been a fire at the residence.’ What? ‘There’s been a fire in the baby’s room.’
“Rhe heater in the nursery caught on fire. There was no smoke detector. Someone happened to just smell smoke down the hallway went in, fire extinguished,” Meghan recalled, noting that Archie’s nanny had thankfully not yet put him down for his nap.
Meghan added that royal staff demanded she and Harry continue their tour and make no mention of the incident.
“I was like, ‘Can you just tell people what happened?’ And so much, I think, optically. The focus ends up being on how it looks instead of how it feels,” she continued.
“And part of the humanizing and the breaking through of these labels and these archetypes and these boxes that we’re put into is having some understanding on the human moments behind the scenes that people might not have any awareness of and to give each other a break.”
She added poignantly:
“Because we did — we had to leave our baby.”
Needless to say, it’s getting easier and easier to understand why Harry and Meghan felt the need to opt out of the never-ending royal “game.”

The Family Chantel has barely scratched the surface on Chantel Everett and Pedro Jimeno’s bitter divorce.
The two separated this spring. Pedro filed for divorce, then Chantel filed her response.
Now, reports say that famous Canadian rapper Drake has been sliding into Chantel’s DMs since she and Pedro split.
Is that really happening? A lot of people feel surprised, especially since Chantel would be so age-appropriate.
Media Take Out reports that Drake has been in Chantel’s DMs since this spring.
An inside source, allegedly an associate of Drake, shared: “Drake reached out.”
Apparently this was “to see how she was doing and where her head was at.”
“And,” the insider continued, “she responded.”
“They’ve been DMing each other back and forth,” the insider detailed.
“And,” the source teased, Chantel and Drake “are planning to meet up soon.”
The report says that Chantel was not eager for a rebound after the end of her marriage, which spanned half a decade.
However, that attitude may soon change.
Or, rather, Drake may end up changing it, the report explains.
“Drake has a way of wearing women down,” the insider described.
“They might not at first expect any romance with Champagne Papi,” the source explained.
“But before long,” the insider insisted, “it always ends up that way.”
We imagine that, even before the separation, Chantel could have used a “friend” as a welcome distraction.
The final months of their dying marriage were palpably miserable, full of fights, emotional isolation, and sadness.
It is easy to imagine Chantel responding favorably to some DMs from a celebrity, even a notorious one, as her life fell apart.
When it comes to timing, we should also consider where Drake’s head was early this year.
Rihanna announced her pregnancy to the world. As we all know, Drake has felt weirdly fixated on her, in ways that make her fans uncomfortable or even angry.
He unfollowed her on social media. Childish, we know, but it might make him more inclined to slide into someone’s DMs, you know?
Also, we know that Drake is a 90 Day Fiance fan.
If this story is legit, Chantel is not the first member of this franchise to be on the receiving end of a Drake DM or two.
But … is this true?
We could not help but notice that Media Take Out, the origin of the report, did not actually spell Chantel’s name correctly. Not even once.
Obviously, people make typos every day. And it’s very possible to be 100% right about someone without spelling their name correctly.
But … it’s fair to consider that a report may be off when the subject’s name has the wrong second vowel.
Our official theory is that we’ll give this report more weight if and when Chantel confirms it.
We’re not ruling it out. But we just don’t see any real evidence to substantiate the rumor. Not yet.
For now, we’re just watching this ugly divorce unfold.

A logical point of comparison for John Michael McDonagh’s The Forgiven is Babel, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s sweeping 2006 narrative of interwoven stories. While this sticks to one country, and is less ambitious in its scope, the dramatic catalysts in both films concern tragic accidents involving white tourists and local young men colliding in the deserts Moroccan.
Babel is a film which focuses on concepts of miscommunication and globalisation, while The Forgiven’s thematic meat is instead the recklessness of the condescending rich, alongside Western influence on the Arab world. All with writer-director McDonagh’s trademark provocative and caustic humour – previously seen in The Guard, Calvary and War on Everyone – bolted on to inconsistent effect.
The film sees Coriolanus co-stars Ralph Fiennes and Jessica Chastain play husband and wife once more, with Fiennes again playing an anus. They’re invited to the desert villa of old friend Richard (Matt Smith) and his partner Dally (Caleb Landry Jones) for a weekend celebration near the High Atlas Mountains. Driving to the remote abode at night, Fiennes’ alcoholic David hits and kills impoverished teenager Driss (Omar Ghazaoui) while under the influence.
Chastain’s Jo initially descends into a state of shock, while David is more concerned with consequences than being remorseful for having killed someone. While Richard and Dally at first express seemingly genuine horror at the sight of the body brought to their place, matters quickly turn to pragmatism and getting festivities back on track.
Following a police report, Driss’ father, Abdellah (Ismael Kanater), later arrives at the estate, insisting David accompany him and English-speaking associate Anouar (Saïd Taghmaoui) back to their village for a burial. Richard and company practically have to force David into the villagers’ van to make amends, the bigoted man convinced he’s either about to lose thousands in a pay-off or be kidnapped by “fucking ISIS”.
Considering McDonagh’s previous writing form, you’re left expecting some subversion or commentary on this overused device – but it never comes. That this section works at all is testament to Fiennes’ ability to inject depth into a relatively one-note character, and the ever-reliable Taghmaoui, with whom he forms a bond, also delivers the dramatic goods. Back at the party, Jo enjoys freedom from her terrible husband, embracing the advances of Christopher Abbott’s Tom.
But McDonagh gives the rest of the talented cast precious little to do. Marie-Josée Croze’s sanctimonious photojournalist proves inconsequential. Alex Jennings’ lord is introduced with hype upon his late arrival, only to contribute very little to proceedings. And poor Abbey Lee – so great an ensemble player in Mad Max: Fury Road and Old – is here a glorified extra despite high billing, saddled with a dialogue-light party girl stereotype. And an oral punchline, in that she exits the film offering someone a blowjob for a ride to Casablanca.
Little White Lies is committed to championing great movies and the talented people who make them.
ANTICIPATION.

Luke Bell, a country music artist and songwriter, was found dead in Arizona on Tuesday, just over a week since he was reported missing in the area.
He was 32 years old.
Bell’s close friend and fellow musician, Matt Kinman, confirmed the tragic news to the Saving Country Music blog yesterday afternoon.
According to the outlet, Bell — who had bipolar disorder — went missing in Tuscon on August 20, when he seemingly vanished while Kinman was grabbing something to eat.
His body was discovered near his last known location nine days later.
A cause of death remains “unknown,” authorities told the aforementioned publication, although an investigation is underway.
In the wake of an insider telling the blog that Bell’s mental state had recently “took a turn for the worse,” many contemporaries expressed their shock and sorrow on social media.
“Man…Luke Bell…what the f—k. RIP to a real one. Been a long time since I saw him and I was just talking about him the other day wondering what he’s been up to,” Joshua Hedley wrote on Twitter.
“Truly a sad night for country music.”
Country band Mike and the Moonpies also remembered the late musician via Facebook.
The heartbreaking message read as follows:
“Word just came down on the passing of Luke Bell and we’re heartbroken over the news.
“I can vividly remember the first time I met Luke at Hole in the Wall over a decade ago, down to the clothes on his back. The man (and his music) left an impression.
“He was a real deal traveling troubadour out there on that lost highway. Do yourself a favor and put on some Luke Bell tunes tonight in his memory.
“Rest In Peace, friend.”
Bell released his first album in 2016.
He opened at times for such big names as Willie Nelson and Dwight Yoakam, telling The Boot shortly after the release of this album:
“To be honest, I live in the day, and I count smiles.
“That’s it. Listen, half the time, I end up drinking beer with my neighbors. Life’s not that bad. The downside, in some ways, is I don’t have a wife and kids, but at the same time, it’s pretty ideal right now. I just travel around to other cities and hang out with other people…
“The goal is to have high hopes and low expectations and have a good time.”
Bell released his final single, “Jealous Guy,” in January 2021.
We send our condolences to his friends, family members and loved ones.

A24’s latest bloodfest Bodies Bodies Bodies is a sardonic riff on The House Party – the only trope in Hollywood that has its own smell. Following the tang of teen spirit to an upstate New York mansion to ride out a hurricane, Sophie (Amandla Stenberg) reassures her new girlfriend Bee (Maria Bakalova) that the friends they are about to meet are “not as nihilistic as they look online”. Spoiler alert: they are.
The teen movies I grew up on taught me not to give a fuck – Bodies Bodies Bodies makes it clear that Gen Z doesn’t need any coaching. A hurricane would’ve seemed cataclysmic cutting through Gurinder Chadha’s Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging; here, it’s barely pathetic fallacy. After the titular card game goes awry, Euphoria meets Agatha Christie and the vicious ensemble of partygoers make the Girls of Lena Dunham’s Girls seem self-aware. Baying for the body count, it’s the best satirical (and literal) skewering of Gen Z to date.
Nonetheless, part of me will always be a Stifler – I mean stickler – for the early noughties house party. The Sum 41-fuelled MTV-of-it-all in 2001’s American Pie 2, or Jake Gyllenhaal’s weird time-trail goopy moment in Donnie Darko of the same year, one that also gave us the genre send-up Not Another Teen Movie. For better or (almost definitely) for worse, these films shaped my concept of house parties during those formative, formless years when my hormones were haywire and weekends involved persuading a kindly stranger outside the local Tesco Metro to buy us some Fosters. We would’ve taken Superbad’s fake McLovin ID over my mate’s brother’s out-of-date driving license any day of the week.
This was the era of The Girl Next Door (2004), The Hot Chick (2002) – cinema as a pervy set of binoculars for the Male Gaze. Still this was an improvement on the teen movies of the 80s. Weird Science (1985) skips the pick-up artistry altogether and instead sees a ragtag group of nerds Frankenstein themselves up the ‘perfect’ (read: busty) woman. A mutant biker gang invades their house party later in the film and sends the boys running, but they’re not nearly as brutalised as a 2020s audience might like them to be. Barely even maimed, in fact.
Instead, the worst downfall a straight man-boy can expect in an ‘80s teen movie is a spot of shame. The awkwardness in 1985’s Teen Wolf comes courtesy of a game of Seven Minutes in Heaven and a full moon. Teenagehood is, after all, a unique – and uniquely terrifying – time of new social codes and bodily transformation, be it underarm hair or full werewolf.
With the emotional bar set at werewolves, kegs, and motorboating, praise be to debut writer and director Paul Bruckman, whose slick teen sex comedy Risky Business (1983) has more nuance than the rest of the era’s offerings combined. Tom Cruise, in his breakout role, plays a spoiled yuppie who transforms his house into an actual brothel for the night while interviewing for an Ivy League – but you don’t even hate him. Rather, Bruckman borrows lyrical sleights of hand from European arthouse cinema, knows when to leave things unsaid and relies on Cruise’s sheer charisma to keep the character on the right side of loathsome.
From lived experience, an amped-up dude does tend to be the scariest thing that can befall a decent party. For that reason, Delta Psi’s ‘Robert De Niro’ themed social in Bad Neighbours (2014) is more nightmarish than anything supernatural. Still, I’d rather be ignoring fifty frat bros mumbling ‘You talkin’ to me?’ than in a cramped kitchen with two drunken men beating the shit out of a chair, as in Harmony Korine’s experimental drama Gummo (1997).
Gummo’s raw and ropey energy is something that Nima Nourizadeh’s Project X (2012) strove for but couldn’t reach. Produced by Todd Phillips – of The Hangover Trilogy and Joker fame – the found-footage teen is a disaster teen party comedy without a sense of humour. Its Blair Witch-inspired attempt at ‘authenticity’ through found-footage techniques barely conceals its grim, tiresome, Hunter Moore-ish pursuit of sex.
Time to grow up, then. Trey Shultz’s Waves (2019) is the most acutely observed recent depiction of unbridled testosterone. Arriving the same year as Sam Levinson’s teen drama Euphoria, and sharing a star in Alexa Demie, the aftershocks of that scene in Waves ripple across the rest of its runtime and are emblematic of a shift in how parties are depicted on our screens.
Waves is all about the burden of living up to an unreachable societal standard, for which house parties play the role of a Large Hadron Collider. This has been dramatised before, of course, and Mean Girls (2004) is prime: tell me you don’t wake up in a cold sweat some nights remembering Cady (Lindsay Lohan) turning up to that Halloween Party in a bridal gown and buck teeth only to discover her frenemies, the Plastics, have dressed sexy.
But cinephiles! Good news is there are so many more ways – more nuanced, distressing, disturbing ways – that you can fall short of the expectations of your peers beyond wearing the wrong costume, and therefore an abundance of party disasters still to be written. You could be arrogant. Needy. Greedy. Aggressive. Passive-aggressive. Obsessive. What’s more, social media is only raising our perceived ideals so failure is all but guaranteed – plus you must seek peer approval at an even earlier age. Fourteen-year-old Kayla’s (Elsie Fisher) long, timid walk from the guest bathroom to the pool party in Eighth Grade (2018) is one of the most suspenseful in all of cinema for the weight of all that imagined, silent judgement beaming her way.
While social media proves a temporary solace for Kayla, we all know the cure is also poison. Bodies Bodies Bodies gets this so right. The first generation to be exposed to the internet from earliest youth, the film calls out Gen Z for their warped way of seeing the world. While our desire for approval shifts from our parents to our peers during puberty, it doesn’t simply stop at nineteen, and social media giants know how to manipulate it.
So be warned non-Gen-Z-ers who feel like sticking the knife in too – doing so would just prove that social media is the most horrifying thing to ever happen to house parties: it colours our every thought and action, every cutting Tweet, every TikTok-ready takedown. As Bodies Bodies Bodies proves, it has made keyboard slashers of us all.

Last Monday, Meghan Markle’s long-awaited Spotify podcast debuted and quickly became the platform’s top-performing property.
The episode may have received a boost from a controversy involving the British royal family, as Meghan made the surprising claim that her son Archie was nearly injured in a house fire, and she was forced to continue working despite her obvious drama.
Now, just one week later, Meghan is once again stirring the pot, this time focusing her attention on the notorious UK tabloid media.
In a lengthy, wide-ranging interview with The Cut, Meghan alleged that members of the British press used racial slurs in reference to her children.
Meghan explained that she was discouraged from sharing pictures of her kids on social media, and was instead expected to offer them to the Royal Rota, the press pool that covers the Windsor clan.
“There’s literally a structure,” Meghan told The Cut.
“Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child?” she asked.
“You tell me how that makes sense and then I’ll play that game.”
Meghan went on to explain that she and Harry were invited to join Prince William and Kate Middleton’s @KensingtonRoyal Instagram account but had little say in what sort of content would be posted to the page.
According to Meghan, she and Harry were expected to continue playing “the exchange game” in which they would provide exclusive photos to the press in exchange for favorable coverage.
“If you want to release photos of your child, as a member of the family, you first have to give them to the Royal Rota,” she said.
Meghan and Harry opted out of that arrangement and started their own Instagram account, @SussexRoyal, where they posted photos of their children and other images from their private lives.
The account was launched just months ahead of Archie’s birth.
Looking back, it seems that that move signaled the beginning of the end of Meghan and Harry’s efforts to stay on as functioning cogs in the royal machine.
These days, “Meghan of Montecito,” as she’s referred to in The Cut is living a very different life in one of SoCal’s toniest suburbs.
The Sussexes attend all of the usual play dates and birthday parties, but Meghan admits that they encounter the occasional awkward moment.
“I was in a bouncy castle, and I saw this 1-year-old inside. I was like, ‘Where’s your mom?’ And this mom on the outside goes, ‘Oh, hi! I’m here. I wasn’t sure if I should come in.,'” she recalled of one recent kid-friendly gathering.
“I was like, ‘Do you need your child? Of course you can come in.'”
At home, Meghan says, she and Harry are focused on raising their two children to demonstrate kindness and respect toward others at all times.
“We always tell him: ‘Manners make the man. Manners, manners, manners, manners, manners,’” Meghan said of Archie, noting that she and Harry are working instill basic etiquette, including the idea that salt and pepper should always be passed together.
“You never move one without the other. That’s me and Harry. We’re like salt and pepper. We always move together,” the Duchess explained.
And no doubt the Sussexes are living a life that’s much richer in texture and flavor than they ever would have known if they had continued to play by the rules.

Back in November, Christine Brown broke away from Kody Brown.
She announced at the time that she was done with this polygamous relationship.
Now, however, in yet another interview with People Magazine, the veteran TLC personality admits that she was done with a couple other related relationships a long time ago.
Looking back at her decision to walk away, Brown told this outlet:
“I hadn’t been that close to Robyn, I hadn’t been that close to Meri, for years.
“As soon as I told everybody, [Janelle] was the only person who talked to me afterwards. I didn’t even talk to Robyn or Meri after that.
“The next time I talked to them was Isabelle’s graduation party and then when I told them I was moving, that’s the only contact I’ve had with them.”
This reveal shouldn’t come as a major shock to long-time Sister Wives fans.
For one thing, Christine and Janelle still work together as salespeople for a seemingly shady weight loss company.
On the flip side, sources have said for months now that Robyn’s connection to Kody has been a problem for Christine.
“She’s been in the process of leaving him for a while,” an insider told Us Weekly in late 2021.
“The big reason why she split from him is because Kody has been completed devoted to Robyn for the past five or six years. That hasn’t changed at all.”
Heck, in a trailer for Sister Wives Season 17, Christine herself acknowledges the following for the first time in public:
“To Kody, Robyn [Brown]’s more important.”
The mother of six only has positive things to say about Janelle, though.
“Janelle and I have stayed close through the whole thing,” she said to People. “She’s wonderful.”
With Sister Wives Season 17 kicking off on September 11, Christine has been busy promoting upcoming episodes — but mostly trashing Kody and emphasizing how thrilled she is to be single.
“I get to live life for me,” Christine adds in the latest issue of People, telling this publication that she could not be happier with the choice she made last year:
“My whole world has changed, and every single cell in my body is happier.”
Yup: Every. Single. Cell.
Christine grew up in a polygamous background and always wanted a plural marriage… but her viewpoint started to change WAY back in 2018.
“I started thinking maybe this isn’t working for me,” she admits now.
“And then I stopped believing in polygamy. I realized I didn’t really want to live it anymore.
“I didn’t like sharing a husband or feeling like I wasn’t important.”
Christine added that she pretty much made up her mind to leave after Kody refused to accompany their daughter, Ysabel, on a trip in September 2020 to New Jersey for back surgery.
And now?
Brown is happy to live once again in Utah, and she’s very much open to dating again.
Under one condition.
“I want a partnership. I want a guy who actually loves me and wants to be with me intimately,” Christine told People, adding:
“I will be a monogamist from here on out.
“Polygamy is not for me anymore. People can do it, it’s fine.
“Live your life, but no, no, not me.”

On the Season 7 premiere of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?, things took a nasty turn for one couple.
After three seasons on The Other Way, Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh finally married.
The biggest obstacle to their wedding — aside from Sumit’s secret, arranged marriage — was his parents’ disapproval.
On the premiere, Sumit finally told them. It went as poorly as he had feared. Perhaps, even worse.
As Sumit and Jenny’s Season 7 journey began, it was all fun and games.
They went on a ridiculous roller skating outing. Production often asks couples to go places for conversations.
Otherwise, viewers complain about seeing the same living room every week. Still, roller skating is a bit much.
Anyway, the couple had exciting news, in case anyone had forgotten: they were married.
We’d love to say that Sumit threw caution to the wind and couldn’t wait another minute to be married to Jenny.
That was sort of true … but her tourist visa extensions were running out. It was now or never. Sumit chose now.
Allegedly, the plan was that they would tell Sahna and Amit at the Tell All.
Prior to the wedding, Sahna had sounded almost open to the idea — at least, not planning to stop them.
But at the Tell All, Sahna was once again adamant that they never marry. She didn’t know that they were. And Sumit chickened out.
On the premiere, however, he knew that they would find out sooner or later.
What he said on-screen was that he feared that someone might tell them.
Of course, what Sumit really meant was that the Tell All would air sooner or later (it aired in December 2021) and Sahna and Anil would find out then.
Just a couple of months into their marriage, Jenny was busy enjoying herself.
She was understandably reluctant to have an inevitably hostile, miserable discussion.
His family does not like her, purely because of her age. What hurts even more is that Sumit is still obsessed with their approval.
It turned out that the decision was out of Jenny’s hands.
Sumit announced to her that he had already invited his family over to their former home (apparently, keeping their new digs a secret?) to tell them.
We hope that Jenny knew, and that she merely acted surprised for the cameras. That’s a hell of a thing to spring on your wife.
Sumit had a game plan for the night: let him do the talking.
Part of this was a language barrier, of course.
The other part was that, because his family despises Jenny, they would likely reject anything that he had to say.
We can’t entirely rule out that production fudged the timing of this scene (thus why it was at the old place), but it doesn’t really matter.
Sahna and Anil arrived, and so did Sumit’s brother, Amit, and sister-in-law, Shree.
The hostility began immediately, with Sahna ridiculing Jenny for feeling warm and answering a question, and Shree body-shaming her “fat” arms.
While sharing very little of what his rude family had said about his wife, Sumit began.
He reminded his parents that they had shown a relative open-mindedness towards the relationship.
In fact, they had signaled that they would not actively fight it if the two tried to marry. But Sahna adamantly denied it.
We all remember Sahna’s meeting with the astrologer, and her talk with Jenny.
She didn’t give them their blessing, but she promised that she could grow and change for the sake of her son.
On the premiere, Sahna acted as if she could not recall any of that. Even though it was all on camera.
Sumit could not hold back any longer.
He told his mother that he and Jenny had married.
It was a lovely ceremony, and most parents would have asked about it. Sahna is not most parents.
Immediately furious, Sahna began to both cry and yell.
She admonished Sumit to not “ever show me your face” again.
If he arrived at her home, she promised, she would insult him and kick him out.
Even Anil’s efforts to calm her did not work.
He implored her to speak in a peaceful manner to Sumit, their son.
She wouldn’t hear it. Sahna acted as if Sumit, a grown man in his thirties, had somehow wronged her by getting married.
It is a truly miserable sight to behold.
Sahna was loudly disowning her own son for choosing happiness and making his own choices in life.
The clip is intense, but worth watching.
Sahna can choose to be a miserable, hateful person all that she likes.
But now she, and only she, is forcing Sumit to choose: his wife and his happiness, or appeasing his mom.
We wish Jenny and Sumit the best as they pick up the pieces. For what it’s worth, Sumit does not need these toxic people in his life.
